James and the Giant Peach

The Grammar Junior Drama Club resumed live performances with an exceptional rendition of this classic Roald Dahl tale.

The Junior Drama Club worked hard to build skills and develop creative cohesion throughout 2021 with the intention of performing the full scale theatre production of Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach. Sadly this was postponed until 2022.

The boys worked tirelessly, giving up many of their weekends and nights, transforming from a group of friends into a menagerie of creepy crawlies. There was the centipede, spider, earthworm and ladybird just to name a few. So too did the theatre itself transform, with ingenious lighting and set design seeing the emergence of a giant peach floating on the open ocean, or indeed, sailing through the stormy sky.

The boys and everyone involved did a stellar job bringing the world of James, his cruel aunts and his giant peach to life. To somehow transport an audience into a world so vividly created by Roald Dahl requires a special sort of theatrical magic, a sort of spark that you can feel but not really explain.

What an adventure for everyone involved. Well done boys!
