There has been coverage from one media outlet very recently regarding the horrific attack which occurred in Pyrmont a few days ago. Coverage from that media outlet indicated that a boy from Sydney Grammar School was involved in this attack. That media outlet contacted the School by email for comment. In that email the name of the alleged Sydney Grammar School boy was included. The name included is not a Sydney Grammar School boy. We immediately advised this media outlet of this fact. Click here for the correction and apology from 7news.

All boys wishing to enter College Street from schools other than St Ives or Edgecliff Preparatory Schools need to take an entrance assessment and, if successful, be prepared to come for an interview.

Assisted Places

The Headmaster and Trustees are committed to enabling as many boys as possible attending Grammar irrespective of their financial circumstances.

In addition to the full academic and music scholarships awarded each year (see Admissions/Scholarships), the School is now able to offer a limited number of assisted places to boys whose performance in the Entrance Assessment for Form I and at interview have resulted in the offer of a place, but whose parents are unable to afford the full fees. The amount of fees remission will be assessed by the Bursar on the basis of financial statements submitted by parents.

Form I (Year 7)

The 2021 Form I (Year 7) Entrance test has been cancelled due to COVID-19. All candidates who have applied to sit the tests will be notified via email of future arrangements as and when they become available.

Applications for Form I, 2021, have now closed.

Please print and complete the Application Form. Forms may be scanned and emailed to: or mailed to:

Academic coaching for the assessment is not necessary, in fact we strongly discourage it. Boys will be asked to complete English tasks (including dictation, comprehension and creative writing) and Mathematics questions (Number, Patterns and Algebra, Measurement and Data, Space and Geometry) including basic operations and problem-solving. All tasks are set and marked by the School.

Boys from Sixth Class at St Ives and Edgecliff will be accepted into Form I (Year 7) at College Street unless, in the opinion of the Headmaster, after consultation with the Preparatory School headmaster concerned, the boy is thought unlikely to flourish at the Senior School.
