Women’s Association

The role of the SGSWA is to organise a range of opportunities where parents and carers of boys at College Street can get together and support the Sydney Grammar School community.

Whilst some of our events do raise funds our main objective is to generate goodwill and support for the School by involving parents and carers in a variety of ways.

The funds we raise go towards assisting with books and uniform for boys on means-tested scholarships, a contribution to the Form VI year book, a contribution to the cost of the Form I dinner and other functions we hold for parents throughout the year. Further funds are donated to School on request and in consultation with the Headmaster.

The SGSWA runs the Grammar Shop, the Weigall Canteen and a Second-Hand book sale. We organise volunteers to work in the School canteen and at open days. Our social events for parents include the New Parents’ Breakfast, the Literary Lunch, Form Parties including special events for Form VI parents, a book club, and other events as requested by School, for example a literary festival workshop and help with the organisation of the Form I dinner and the Form VI Leavers’ dinner. We work collaboratively with the Fathers’ Association at many of these events. We also arrange Trivia Nights for boys with some of the local girls’ schools.

Volunteers

We need volunteers in the Tuckshop, the Grammar Shop and the Weigall Canteen. We encourage all Grammar mothers to become volunteers. This is a great way to catch up with friends, meet new people and make an incredibly valuable contribution to the Grammar School community. Please contact us if you can help at sgswa@sydgram.nsw.edu.au.

Second hand book sale

Every year in the last week of Term IV the Women’s Association runs a very successful sale of second-hand textbooks at the School. Boys can deliver books which they no longer need to be sold on. The books sell at 55% of their original price. The Women’s Association keeps 25% of the sale price to donate back to the school and the remainder is sent via EFT to the boy/parent selling the books. This is always a hugely popular event and offers a more economical and sustainable alternative to buying new textbooks at retail prices.
