All boys wishing to enter College Street from schools other than St Ives or Edgecliff Preparatory Schools need to take an entrance assessment and, if successful, be prepared to come for an interview.
The Headmaster and Trustees are committed to enabling as many boys as possible attending Grammar irrespective of their financial circumstances.
In addition to the full academic and music scholarships awarded each year (see Admissions/Scholarships), the School is now able to offer a limited number of assisted places to boys whose performance in the Entrance Assessment for Form I and at interview have resulted in the offer of a place, but whose parents are unable to afford the full fees. The amount of fees remission will be assessed by the Bursar on the basis of financial statements submitted by parents.
Form I (Year 7)
The assessments for boys wishing to enter Form I (Year 7) in 2020 will be held in May, 2019.
Academic coaching for the assessment is not necessary, in fact we strongly discourage it. Boys will be asked to complete English tasks (including dictation, comprehension and creative writing) and Mathematics questions (Number, Patterns and Algebra, Measurement and Data, Space and Geometry) including basic operations and problem-solving. All tasks are set and marked by the School.
Boys from Sixth Class at St Ives and Edgecliff will be accepted into Form I (Year 7) at College Street unless, in the opinion of the Headmaster, after consultation with the Preparatory School headmaster concerned, the boy is thought unlikely to flourish at the Senior School.
Entrance Assessment/Forms II to V (Years 8 to 11)
Entry to Forms above Form I is also possible.
If places are available, Entrance assessments for these Forms are usually held in August for entry the following year.
The entrance assessments for boys wishing to enter Forms II to V in 2020 will be held in August, 2019.
