This year’s production of Matilda Jr. was a highlight of the Edgecliff calendar, bringing together months of creativity, dedication, and enthusiasm from pupils, staff and families.

Based on Roald Dahl’s beloved novel and featuring music and lyrics by Tim Minchin, the production had been eagerly anticipated long before rehearsals began. Auditions commenced the previous year, and the quality of performances made casting exceptionally challenging. From the outset, it was clear that the Year 6 boys were excited by the opportunity to bring the story to life.

Over the following months, the cast immersed themselves in rehearsals, developing their acting, singing and stagecraft while building the confidence required for a major theatrical production. Their commitment was matched by a dedicated team of staff whose energy and expertise guided the boys throughout the process.

The production was supported by Music staff Ms Caitlin Sherring and Mr Remington Owen, whose work with the cast helped shape a vibrant and polished musical experience. We were also fortunate to work alongside designer Miss Hannah Tyler and technical officer Mr Keelan Ellis from College Street, whose professional skills transformed the R.W. Billing Hall into the world of Matilda.

A production of this scale is never the work of a single group. We are deeply grateful to the many staff members, parent volunteers and supporters who contributed their time, talents and encouragement throughout the year.
Matilda Jr. will be remembered not only for its outstanding performances, but also for the sense of community, collaboration and joy that it fostered along the way.
