Edgecliff Preparatory School Co-Ed Leadership Day emphasises collaboration and positive interaction.
On Thursday 5 February, Year 6 pupils from Edgecliff Preparatory School and St Catherine’s School took part in a Co-education Leadership Day, engaging in a programme focused on communication, self awareness, and understanding different leadership styles. The day had an inclusive atmosphere, with pupils working alongside peers with whom they may not normally collaborate.

A key feature of the day was the emphasis on recognising diverse approaches to leadership. The boys and girls reflected on how different personalities contribute to group success and discussed the importance of listening, adapting, and valuing perspectives that differ from their own. These conversations encouraged them to consider how balanced contributions lead to stronger team outcomes.
Group-based problem-solving tasks reinforced these themes. Pupils had numerous opportunities to practise effective communication, both verbal and non-verbal, while identifying natural strengths within their teams. Many groups demonstrated thoughtful co-operation, showing an ability to adjust strategies, support quieter voices, and respond constructively to challenges.
The final creative task, which asked pupils to propose solutions to everyday school issues, highlighted their capacity to think practically and work purposefully toward shared goals. Presentations were concise and well considered, reflecting the collaborative work completed within each team.
The day was an excellent springboard for the more bespoke leadership opportunities available to the boys and girls at their respective schools. Looking ahead, the aim is for the pupils to put this theoretical knowledge into practice. Examples of leadership opportunities open to the Year 6 boys at Edgecliff Preparatory School include being subject monitors, leading house sports matches and carnivals, giving speeches at significant School events, and on the playground with younger boys.
