Acting Director of Sport Mr Mark Philp updates us with all the summer sport action.
The 2025–26 basketball season delivered strong competitive outcomes across multiple age groups, highlighted by the outstanding performance of the 14s age group, who were the most successful team for the season, winning 61 per cent of their games. This result reflects consistent skill development, tactical execution, and commitment from both players and coaching staff. At the senior level, the First and Second teams combined for a total of five GPS victories across the season, demonstrating resilience and competitiveness within a challenging competition environment.
Individual achievement was also recognised during the season, with Ashton Clarke (VI), Captain of Basketball, being awarded his Honour Badge after earning selection in the GPS Representative Team. This accomplishment represents a significant personal milestone and reflects the strength of the programme in supporting high-performing athletes. Overall, the season balanced team success with individual development, reinforcing the programme’s commitment to excellence, opportunity, and representative achievement across all levels.

It was a historic and memorable season for the Cricket Club, highlighted by the playing of the 150th match between Sydney Grammar School and Melbourne Grammar School at the Albert Ground in Melbourne during the January Tri-Grammar competition. Although we did not win this contest, the boys played with great dedication and commitment against a very strong opposition.
The First XI were unlucky not to finish higher on the ladder, with five narrow losses that could easily have gone the other way. The Second XI competed with determination each week but found it challenging to consistently produce the complete performances required at this level. Importantly, the experience gained by the younger players should serve the group well in the years ahead.
There were several outstanding individual achievements throughout the season. Benjamin Ho (VI) produced a superb century against Brisbane Grammar School, while Samuel Cheever (V) claimed an impressive twenty-six wickets for the Second XI. Representative honours were also earned by a number of boys: Benjamin Ho (VI) and Archie Platt (VI) were selected in the AAGPS XI, and Alex Cheever (V) and Aarya Srikantha (IV) were chosen in the U15 AAGPS Chairman’s XI. Congratulations also to Lachy Webster (VI), recipient of the prestigious Albert ‘Tibby’ Cotter Trophy for the best player in the First XI.
Encouraging performances across the lower age groups this summer provide strong signs that cricket at Grammar will continue to flourish in the years ahead.
The 2026 season saw strong progress across the rowing programme. Junior rowing continued to expand, with record participation and several gold medal performances through the season from both the Year 8 and Year 9 cohorts – an encouraging sign for the future.
For the second consecutive year, the Year Ten VIIIs competed at the Melbourne Head Regatta, placing third and seventh in a field of more than thirty-five crews from across the country. At the AAGPS Head of the River, Grammar fielded three Year Ten VIIIs and four Senior IVs, demonstrating the increasing depth emerging within the programme.
Senior crews undertook an intensive training schedule, including camps at the Nepean and in Canberra. While overall results were mixed, there were notable highlights: the First VIII placed third at the NSW Schoolboy Championships, and the Second VIII claimed gold in their respective categories. Two Senior IVs also progressed to the NSW State Championship final and both crews competed at the National Championships in Tasmania from 23 to 27 March.
While the 2026 Head of the River results were not what we had hoped for, our crews displayed outstanding determination and fortitude throughout the regatta. The School is immensely proud of the resilience, boatshed pride and teamwork shown, which continues to define our rowing culture and underpin future success.
We extend our sincere thanks to the Parents and Friends of the Boat Club Association for their invaluable support throughout the season.

The 2026 Grammar swim team delivered an exceptional season in the pool, showcasing impressive performances across GPS Competitions 1, 2 and 3. Both the Junior and Intermediate teams were at the top of their respective tables. After a nail-biting battle at the AAGPS Championships, our Juniors secured the Junior Division trophy for the first time since 2007, and our Intermediates claimed second place. A fantastic result for the Grammar swim squad, reflecting their determination and teamwork all season.
A highlight of the evening was the All Age 6 × 50 freestyle relay. With the help of our Form IV cheer squad, the Grammar team consisting of Ashly Yang (I), Hudson Duong (II), Hugo Jones (II), Jonah Jo (III) Joseph Braund (IV) and Jonathan Cheng (VI) finished the race seven seconds ahead of the rest of the field in a GPS record-breaking time. Sixteen boys have been selected to progress to the CIS Competition. Congratulations to all swimmers on an outstanding season.

The School had an historic season, winning the AAGPS Premiership for the first time in thirty years. An early defeat against The Scots College in Round 1 spurred our players to thirteen consecutive victories, including the reverse fixture against Scots. The depth of talent running through the side was the significant factor with all six members of the Firsts dominating opponents.
The Seconds had a strong season, coming second to The King’s School by 2.5 points. The 13s age group have several very talented players who will be trying out for the First and Second teams next season. The tennis talent at Sydney Grammar School falls across all age groups and bodes well for future seasons.

Tennis across the age groups is very strong at Sydney Grammar School. Over the last five seasons our teams have averaged an 80 percent win rate.
This season the U14s were undefeated and the U15s and U16s were dominant in their age groups, often winning fixtures without dropping a set.
Lucas Lin (V) and Captain Kai Sloane (VI) were selected in the GPS side which played ISA and CAS.
