Treasure Island

Director Ms Emily Kaufling reports on a spirited production of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic adventure tale.

“No man is an Island, entire of itself;
every man is a piece of the Continent, a part of the main.”
John Donne

Ahoy, me hearties! Gather ’round as I regale ye with a tale of theatrical daring and swashbuckling adventure!

It’s nigh impossible for lads to resist the siren call of a pirate’s quest, especially when the stage be set for high seas drama. In our search for the finest rendition of Robert Louis Stevenson’s legendary yarn, we couldn’t overlook the contemporary adaptation by Bryony Lavery. This version proudly introduced more female characters, offering a versatile cast that breathed new life into the classic tale.

Our young buccaneers seized these roles with gusto, and were ecstatic to share their thrilling escapades with ye all. I was overjoyed to once again involve the budding talents from our Music department and the spirited Shanty Band, led by the indomitable Bob Ledbury (III). Their melodies enriched this narrative beyond my wildest imaginings.

Mr Ellis infused joy into every facet of our journey, and our design crew transformed our initial bursts of inspiration into tangible reality. I extend my deepest gratitude to them.
