College Street: History Teacher

A full-time permanent position in our History Department will be available from Term III, 2021.  The History Department at Sydney Grammar School caters to the curiosity of hundreds of boys, offering twelve unique courses.  We are searching for a passionate and committed history teacher with broad interests and engaging ideas.  The successful applicant will be required to teach Stage 4-5 History (Mandatory and Elective).  Experience teaching Stage 6 Modern and / or Ancient History, as well as History Extension, is desirable but not essential.  The successful applicant will also be required to participate fully in the broader life of the School, including its co-curricular and pastoral care programs.

College Street: HR Administrator

Reporting to the Bursar and assisting senior staff, the School is seeking an HR Administrator responsible for implementing and developing the operational delivery of human resources.

This role spans across our three campuses.

Applicants will need to provide a valid and current Working with Children Check at the time of their application.

Key requirements and experience:

  • Integrity, honesty and professionalism, and a thorough understanding of the requirements of strict confidentiality.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Human Resource Administration, coupled with experience in the education industry with an ongoing commitment to professional development. Experience in the education industry would be well regarded.
  • Strong administrative skills.
  • High level interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
  • Solid understanding of the operation of The Fair Work Act, collective agreements and Human Resources related legislation.
  • Understanding of best practice in the administration of employment contracts.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a stand-alone environment and as part of a team.
  • A high-level of computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with the use of online systems to manage human resources workflows within a large organisation.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Implementing and maintaining the School’s human resources systems.
  • Planning, implementing and evaluating human resource procedures and practices.
  • Managing on-boarding and recruitment across preparatory and senior school campuses including organising recruitment, orientation, induction and training.
  • Overseeing service contractor compliance.
  • Maintaining job requirements and job descriptions.
  • Ensuring that all persons working, visiting or volunteering at the School have the relevant clearance and induction to be working with children and in child-related work. This includes WWCC verification with the Office of the Children’s Guardian.
  • Verifying visa conditions and requirements via the Department of Home Affairs, using the Visa Entitlement Verification Online (VEVO) Portal.
  • Administering the employee lifecycle from pre-recruitment to off boarding.
  • Maintaining professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Overseeing staff records including data entry and the uploading of all relevant documentation pertaining to new and existing workers.
  • Monitoring the status and expiry of relevant certifications including staff First Aid, CPR and Anaphylaxis, boat licences, firearms licences and relevant gun registrations, and other related matters.
  • Oversee the management of workers compensation claim and return to work program.
  • The ability to respond employee queries regarding terms and conditions.
  • A working knowledge of the School’s salary packaging programme.

No formal qualifications are necessary; however, it is mandatory to have current first aid certification and a Working with Children Check (WWCC) number.

Our focus is skill development, participation and to foster a love of sport across all codes including athletics, basketball, cricket, fencing, football, rugby and tennis.
