At any entry point into the School, the entrance assessment is age appropriate, becoming more formalised as a boy gets older.
Young boys who wish to enter St Ives Preparatory School in the early years (Preschool or Kindergarten) are invited for an informal play-based assessment in small groups for about 1 hour. These assessments of the younger boys (Preschool to Year 2) entering the School are designed to determine a boy’s readiness for the programme which the Prep School offers. Boys are expected to have good spoken English. The assessments are usually held towards the end of Term 1 (Kindergarten) and beginning of Term 2 (Preschool). However, if places are available an assessment for a boy can be arranged at any time prior to entry.
Assessments for older boys (Years 3-6) are usually held in the year prior to entry, however if places are available, an assessment for a boy can be arranged at any time prior to entry. These assessments are designed to assess academic performance. It is expected that boys of this age are achieving well at their current schools. Boys who perform well in their entrance assessment are invited for an interview with the Headmaster, accompanied by their parents.
