The library is named after AB 'Banjo' Paterson, one of the School's most famous Old Boys (1875-1881).

It contains seating for 200 pupils in a variety of areas. Most items in the library are available for loan.

  1. Books - over 50,000 volumes (10,000 are fiction)
  2. Magazines, journals and newspapers
  3. DVDs and CDs
  4. Audio books on CD - mainly fiction
  5. Online databases and encyclopedias
  6. Syllabus and course outlines from the NSW Board of Studies
  7. The Sydneian 1875 - current
  8. University handbooks

Boys who volunteer as librarians spend two sessions per week performing a variety of activities. As they progress through the School they also progress through the Library with new tasks and responsibilities. During their first years they are involved with shelving, shelf-checking and processing. In Third and Fourth Form they help at the circulation desk and take on supervisory roles in this area. Senior librarians help to train and support the new librarians, and supervise shelving and shelf checking.

Opening Hours

The library is open from 8:00am - 6:00pm on school days.

Holiday Hours

The Library will be closed during the Christmas holiday break.

Boys who would like to work in a library when the School library is closed could try either Sydney City Library in Customs House at Circular Quay, the State Library of NSW on Macquarie Street, or their own local public library.
