Music at Edgecliff

Music has a central place in the culture of the whole School. It not only offers the boys a gift which they need never lose, but has proven pedagogical benefits in many different areas. The music curriculum has been designed in collaboration with the Music Department at College Street and St Ives, with singing being the core of our music programme. Boys from Kindergarten to Year 6 learn to sing using solfa signs following the Kodály method, and are given the opportunity to sing in Choirs from Year 2 up. Tuition in all orchestral instruments is available. Well over twenty instrumental groups meet regularly, that encourage boys to work collaboratively across year groups, to learn teamwork, respect and cooperation. We have a symphony orchestra, wind bands, string, brass, woodwind and percussion ensembles, guitar and jazz ensembles, chamber groups, and Taiko drumming groups. Boys are given the opportunity to go on tour, and perform outside the School. Our Year 2 boys perform at a local Retirement Village each term as an outreach to the community. Vocal scholars are selected to join with older boys at College Street as part of a special choir.
