Music

Music has a central place in the culture of the whole School. It not only offers the boys a gift which they need never lose, but has proven pedagogical benefits in a host of different areas.

The music curriculum has been designed in collaboration with the Music Department at College Street, and tuition in nearly all orchestral instruments is available. Well over twenty instrumental groups meet regularly. We have a symphony orchestra, wind bands, chamber groups and smaller string ensembles. From time to time boys are given the opportunity to go on tour, and perform outside the School.

Vocal training and choral music is also an important part of our music programme. Boys from Transition to Year Six learn to sing using solfa signs following the Kodály method. Vocal scholars are selected to join with older boys at College Street as part of a special choir, the Schola Cantorum.
