Geography

We are looking for an experienced teacher of Geography for a twelve month temporary leave placement from the start of 2018. The successful candidate will have strong academic qualifications, and will also be prepared to contribute to the broader life of the School.

Mandarin

Sydney Grammar School is seeking a passionate, dynamic and creative Mandarin teacher for a permanent, full-time position from Term 1, 2018. We welcome applications from qualified teachers of Mandarin. The ability to teach the Continuers and Extension courses is desirable. The successful applicant will also be prepared to contribute to the broader life of the School.

Sydney Grammar School - Keyboard Fellowship 2018

An exciting opportunity exists for a recent graduate for a one year full time placement as the Sydney Grammar School Keyboard Fellow.

Sydney Grammar is an academically selective school which places a strong emphasis on Music. The successful candidate will be mentored by highly respected and experienced staff in a thriving and diverse Music Department, and have access to world-class facilities and instruments. The position reports directly to the Head of Keyboard and to the Director of Music.

The appointment will be salaried for one full calendar year. The Fellow will work at the School for each of the four School terms in the 2018 academic year. Some flexibility exists in the position to enable the Fellow to participate in external performing and professional pursuits.

Specific Skills desired: Accompanying

  • Excellent sight-reading skills
  • Experience as an accompanist and repetiteur
  • High level performance skills
  • Fluency in different styles including classical, music theatre, pop and jazz*
  • Chord-reading skills and ability to improvise accompaniments in jazz/pop styles*

(*desired but not essential)         

Teaching

  • Experience in teaching piano pupils
  • Familiarity with the AMEB syllabus
  • Ability to teach Musicianship

The following will also be required:

  • Repetiteur for the School’s musical theatre production
  • Assist with the development of the Chamber Music programme
  • Attend Music Department concerts/functions/meetings as necessary
  • Promote the status of keyboard music throughout the School
  • Assist with hymn accompaniment in School Assemblies
  • Become involved in the pastoral life of the School, in particular, the Tutorial programme
  • Abide by the rules and requirements as stated in the School’s Masters’ Handbook
