Chess has a long and proud history at Grammar. The School has been Australian Schools' Champions three times, and runners-up three times since the inaugural tournament in 1998.
The main event on our chess calendar is the NSW Junior Chess League's Secondary Schools Teams Competition, which is staged in three levels: Junior (Years 7 and 8), Intermediate (Years 9 and 10) and Senior (Years 11 and 12). This competition involves ninety schools, split into four geographical regions. In addition, there are a number of one-day tournaments which vary from year to year.
For more information regarding the Metropolitan East Division competition please refer to the NSWJCL website.
Games take place on a home-and-away basis on Friday afternoons after school. The main chess room is H2 which is easily accessed from the College Street entrance.
