Women's Association

WELCOME

Our job is to organise a range of opportunities where parents and friends of Grammar boys can get together and support the Sydney Grammar School community in the widest possible sense. Whilst some of our events do raise funds our main objective is to generate goodwill and support for the school by involving parents and friends in a variety of ways.

The funds we do raise go towards the anual Women's Association Scholarship. We also make contributions to assist with books and uniform for boys on means-tested scholarships. Further funds go towards the provision of equipment to sporting groups or clubs as requested.

We run the Grammar Shop, the Weigall canteen, the Second Hand Book Sale and we organise volunteers to work in the school tuckshop. Our social events include: College Street Forums; Form 1 Dinner; Leavers' Lunch; Literary Lunch; Form Drinks Parties; Weigall Music Festival; Melbourne Cup Lunch; Trivia Night; New Mothers' Morning Tea; Morning Tea for parents coming to Grammar from outside the Prep-school system.

We have meetings regularly and our activities are reported in the Grammar newsletter. We are a volunteer and service-based association, totally dependent on the generosity, dedication and talents of our committee and membership group.

MEMBERSHIP

Membership is open to all mothers and guardians who currently have boys at the school. For membership details please contact Vivienne Mersiades at mmersiad@bigpond.net.au.

VOLUNTEERS

We need volunteers in the Tuck Shop, the Grammar Shop and the Weigall Canteen. We encourage Grammar mothers to become volunteers. This is a great way to catch up with friends, meet new people and make an incredibly valuable contribution to the Grammar School community. Please contact us if you can help.

2008 INFORMATION

GRAMMAR SHOP

When you buy your son's gear from the Grammar Shop all profits come back to the school. We have everything your boy needs in uniform and sportswear (except for rowing gear) as well as stationery items, crested goods, umbrellas, dog leads and fold-up chairs.

Payment can be made by cheque, credit card or cash. Our volunteers are experts at dealing with boys especially those who are reluctant to try on clothes! So if you are having trouble send your son in with payment details and we can kit him out.

Opening hours:
Monday 12 – 2pm
Thursday 12 – 5pm
Friday 12 – 5pm

We accept second-hand uniform for sale (or donation) as long as the items are clean and in good condition. Please contact Penny Handelsman with any queries or to volunteer phone 94173115

TUCKSHOP

The tuckshop is run by volunteers. If you can spare a day a week, a day a term or even one day a year we would love to see you and so would the boys. There is a great social atmosphere in the tuckshop and with a very busy schedule the day flies.

For weekly specials and prices see the 2008 INFORMATION above.

REHEATING LUNCH FROM HOME

  • Food brought from home can be reheated for lunch.
  • Lunches to be reheated must be handed in to the tuck shop by 8.30am
  • The food must be in a container that can be microwaved.
  • Please write your son's name clearly on the lid.
  • Reheated lunch must be collected from the lunch-order trolley outside the canteen between 12.35-12.45pm.
  • Any containers not claimed will be discarded.

SECOND HAND BOOK SALE

This takes place in the first week of December. Boys can deliver books to be sold. The books sell at 50% of their original price. We charge a $2 administration fee for anyone selling more than $30 worth of books. 20% of the sale price goes to the Women's Association and the remainder is sent by cheque to the boy selling the books. This is always a hugely popular event and again depends on volunteers to make it run smoothly.

For all enquiries please contact sgswa@sydgram.edu.au.
